Julian X. Salmond (born November 11, 1994) is an American graphic designer and digital artist from Fort Worth, Texas, and the founder of Juice Designs Studios. Raised in the Lake Como neighborhood of Fort Worth, Salmond works primarily within music and entertainment, creating album and single artwork, cinematic composites, portrait-driven designs, expressive typography, illustration, branding and promotional graphics.

Early life and design

Salmond grew up in Lake Como, Fort Worth, and developed an interest in digital design while still in middle school.

During the height of the MySpace era, he began experimenting with custom page layouts and basic coding around the seventh grade. The process of changing layouts, graphics and page elements introduced him to digital creativity and the idea of building a visual identity online.

Around the eighth grade, Salmond began experimenting with Adobe Photoshop through a free trial. He continued developing his abilities largely through self-teaching, spending years learning new techniques and becoming increasingly comfortable with photo manipulation, typography and digital artwork.

As his skills developed, Salmond eventually reached a point where much of the material being covered in his formal graphic design classes was already familiar to him.

He began earning money from graphic design around 2013–2014, turning a skill he had been developing since childhood into professional work.

Athletics

Alongside design, athletics played a major role in Salmond's early life.

He attended Western Hills High School in Fort Worth, where he played varsity football as a defensive tackle. During his high-school career, Salmond earned Outstanding Defensive Lineman recognition and an All-District Honorable Mention.

Ahead of his senior season, a Fort Worth-area football preview highlighted Salmond as one of Western Hills' key defensive players, noting that he had the ability to "make opposing O-lines miserable."

Salmond also competed in powerlifting and qualified for the Texas High School Powerlifting Association Division I State Championship.

At the 2013 state meet, he recorded a 715-pound squat, 375-pound bench press and 600-pound deadlift for a 1,690-pound total in the super-heavyweight division.

His athletic career continued after high school. Salmond later played football at Trinity Valley Community College and continued competing athletically through rugby while attending Texas Tech University.

Graphic design career

Although Salmond had been designing since adolescence and earning money from his work since the early 2010s, graphic design gradually became the primary direction of his career.

After returning to Fort Worth in 2017, he began focusing on design as his full-time profession.

Under the name Juice Designs, Salmond developed a body of work centered around the intersection of music and visual culture.

His work moves between cinematic composites, portrait-driven cover artwork, expressive typography, illustration, branding and promotional design. Rather than applying the same visual style to every project, Salmond approaches each release by developing a concept that reflects the artist, the music and the world surrounding it.

Each project begins with finding the visual idea that fits the music.

Over the course of his career, Salmond's work has been associated with independent and major-label music projects connected to companies including Def Jam, Sony, EMPIRE, Capitol Records and Quality Control.

What began with MySpace layouts, basic coding and a Photoshop free trial ultimately developed into a full-time creative career.

His background in football, competitive powerlifting and rugby also helped shape the discipline and competitive mindset that he later brought into his work as a designer.

Today, Juice Designs Studios represents the combination of Salmond's longtime interests in art, music, entertainment and visual culture, with a focus on creating artwork that gives each project a distinct visual identity.
